ABOUT

Intensive singer-songwriter album full of demons, stories and intimate, personal reflection.  All twelve songs were written by Jakub Čermák (aka Cermaque) at the beginning of this year, while walking through Paris. Poet, busker, songwriter and occasional director Jakub Čermák on his new album, this time without the Cirkus Cermaque band, but with a foreign participation, provides an authentic impression of the present time.

His fifth studio album was recorded by the singer-songwriter and poet Jakub Čermák together with excellent French guitarist Rémy Reber and Franco-Brazilian singer Raisa França Bastos during their three-month stay in Paris in spring 2012. “In mid-April, it turned out that I had written fourteen songs in Paris. Two of them dropped out during the recording that followed, but it is still a quite authentic and complete impression of one (time-wise and geographically) exactly time-limited experiences. Actually, still in the course of recording we didn’t count with the fact that we would be able to put together an entire album.”  Jakub’s long-time friendship with his French guests helped significantly to the compactness of the album; and especially the virtuoso skills and education of Rémy Reber, who is a student of the prestigious Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris.

The backbone of the album are again significant lyrics in which the author’s current experience present more in the atmosphere and horizon than in the theme, there are mainly contradictions and internal passions to which the wandering along the Seine banks full of police divers, interviews with the homeless or stories of poet’s favorite authors  are an effective background, frame and guardrail. The undead wandering towards the river wound on a reel of the ocean. Plants that sing like music boxes. Claw of the moon thrust into the heart...Paris, as a potential symbol of both diffidence and hope of contemporary Europe, half a tourist museum, half Zola’s “belly”, a huge market and place of continual clash of cultures, their differences, unity and symbioses.
