ABOUT

New album called Sens of ladies’ violoncello duo Tara Fuki confirms its exceptional position of this band in the field of alternative music. The members of the duo are the singing violoncellist Andrea Konstankiewicz-Nazir (ex BOO, Rale etc. ) and Dorota Barová (Vertigo, Kuzmich Orchestra, DoMa Ensemble etc. ), who together once again allure the listeners to explore musical styles and the taste of distant places while maintaining unique references of woman’s soul.

Tara Fuki was awarded the Czech Academy of Popular Music prize in the category of “Alternative Music – World Music” and “Newcomer of the Year” for 2001 and in the category of “World Music“in 2007.  In the same year they performed as the first Czech band in the global music fair “WOMEX” in Sevilla, Spain. Their fourth studio album shows Tara Fuki in a quieter aspect, with fewer digressions in other genres. We can also hear more intimate, but also more improvised music.

Tara Fuki celebrates this year the tenth anniversary and the album Sens is part of the celebrations. Also this was the reason why the band turns back towards their original work and rendition, as Dorota Barová tells. “There were many guests on our last album and there were samples on “Kapka” which were put to some songs by Mario Buzzi. We wanted to make the recording by ourselves again, but because we use boxes with loop and effects in the concerts there are cellos and polyphonic singing used on the new album as well as various percussions in two songs.”

Sens contains ten original songs. All the songs, as is customary with Tara Fuki, are in Polish. Two texts are from the Polish poet Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński who lived in Warsaw during World War II. “We draw our inspiration from Baczyński’s poems from the very beginning.  They have beautiful poetics and power.  And most of all, it is very inspiring to compose music to a beautiful poetry; it alone guides us,” says Dorota Barová, who is the author of the remaining lyrics. Besides the songs, there are also two improvisations on the album. The first one is called “Tobě“and opens the entire album. The second one, “Moment“, that appears in the middle of the album is a fusion of percussive instrument Hang and voice. “I discovered Hang in a music shop in Toulouse when it was still totally unknown and it was love at first sight!” says Andrea and concertgoers can confirm it.  In other songs, with the help of studio equipment and possibilities, there are cello and singing polyphonies used in some parts of the album as a part of arrangements.

The music was recorded and mixed in the studio Cyber Baobab by Miroslav Chyška.  Ivo Sedláček took care of the master in the studio Velvet Mastering. The cover was designed by Dorota Barová and Marcel Bárta. The photos that are used in the booklet were taken by Mi Vejnarová. The ten-year anniversary will be celebrated at the concerts in November. “The album will be christened by Lenka Dusilová and we will also perform together either one of our songs or one of hers, it is still open. Well, in some songs, we will be accompanied by the members of Vertigo Quintet - Daniel Šoltis on drums, Rastislav Uhrík on bass and Marcel Bárta on saxophones“, reveals Dorota Barová.
