Trio rooted in the tradition which walked its own music path

The founder of the project  The Jitka Šuranská Trio was the violinist and singer Jitka Šuranská, who was dedicated to the interpretation and arrangement of folk songs (not only) from Moravia.

Jitka Šuranská (1978 - 2019) – Graduated from the Institute for Art Studies in Ostrava (violin class of prof. Zdeněk Gola), since 2003 a member of the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra in Zlín. She was a member of Cimbálová muzika Stanislava Gabriela (The Cimbal Music of Stanislav Gabriel) for several years; in 2003 co-founded the duo Plocek & Šuranská with the mandolin player and music publicist Jiří Plocek. Their album Písňobraní won the music award “Anděl” in the category of World Music. She won the same award for her solo album Nězachoď slunečko from 2013, which among others has the Slovak Pacora Trio as guests.

Martin Krajíček (1977) – Graduated from Masaryk University in Brno (musicology), has been self-learning to play mandolin since he was 14 (directed by Radim Zenkl, Jiří Plocek, David Grisman). He’s an organizer of the weekend/week course Mandolin workshop of Martin Krajíček, works as a composer, arranger and freelance musician (mandolin, guitar, banjo), is a sought-after studio player and pedagogue (ZUŠ Boskovic - Basic Art School). He’s currently a member of the projects Mariachi Espuelas (Mexican traditional music), Cimbal Classic (world music), Jitka Šuranská Trio (world music), KlezMehrin (klezmer), and also performs with his solo mandolin program. He has participated in the recording of almost twenty albums such as Trní: Pramen (1999), Natalika: Touha, která duši svírá (2001), Hana a Petr Ulrychovi: Koločava (2002), Cimbal Classic: Biathlon (2003). In 2009, he presented his songs in the USA at a prestigious symposium The Mandolin Symposium with David Grisman and Mike Marshall.

Marian Friedl (1979) – Graduated from the jazz department at the College of Jaroslav Ježek (double bass class of Jaromír Honzák) and the Faculty of Arts at Charles University in Prague (ethnology). He is a freelance musician, an external editor of the Czech radio station Vltava, an external musician of the National Moravian-Silesian Theater, and a teacher (e.g. ZUŠ Frenštát p/R. - Basic Art School). He’s currently a member of the projects NOCZ Quartet (free-jazz), Jan Přibil a Přátelé (contemporary jazz), Martin Chodúr a Mach5 (pop), RukyNaDudy (archaic music of Beskydy), Jitka Šuranská Trio (world music). He has participated in the recording of more than a dozen albums such as Tomáš Kočko a Orchestr: Do Tanca (2003), Nedaba: Songs About... (2009), Martin Chodúr: Manifest (2012), NOCZ: NOCZ and Iva Bittová (2014). In 2010, he spoke at the prestigious conference TEDxPrague.
