Band of Heysek is a group of three guys from Brno, Czech Republic, who compose and play their own raw, dirty blues songs.
The band was founded in 2015. All three musicians knew each other from previous projects. Their very first gig at the Eurotrialog festival in Mikulov was so successful, that they were immediately invited for the following year, but also to be the support band for Smokie.
Since then, they have been gigging in clubs and festivals in the Czech Republic, Poland, Bosnia and Slovakia, including the famous Blues Alive festival and as the support band for Animals in Sono Club in Brno (2018).
Their debut album SHOVEL & MATTOCK (Indies Scope 9/2017) was highly acclaimed by the public and in reviews and this opened the door to clubs and festivals. The name of the album also determines the raw, dirty sound of the band, which became their brand.
In the spring of 2019, the band recorded their second album in a cottage in the Orlicke Mountains. This album really reflected the unique, wooden environment where it was recorded. It’s called I’M GLAD I MET YOU (Indies Scope 9/2019) and the amount of material resulted in a double LP issue. Bosnian keyboard virtuoso Omer Blentic, who regularly joins the band for special gigs, tours and recordings had a substantial influence on this album.
In the autumn of 2018, the band played a mini tour through Czech Republic and Poland with a gang of musicians (R.L. Boyce, Kenny Brown and Robert Kimbrough) from the North Mississippi Hill Country Blues scene. After that encounter, in the summer of 2019, they joined the North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic, a cult festival and probably the most authentic blues festival around the world. At the end of their trip, they spent two recording days in the studio in Water Valley, together with Kenny Brown and R.L. Boyce (2017 Grammy nominee). Together with their legendary guests, they cut two albums. The first one, called „R.L. BOYCE & BAND OF HEYSEK feat. KENNY BROWN – JUKE MY JOINT“ issued in April 2020 at Indies Scope, the second is in the pipeline...
