Allow me to introduce you to Lingers
...from a genuinely biased perspective. I have known Lingers since they started out in 1993 in Ústí nad Labem, I have seen them mature as a band, I think they are an amazingly talented group of musicians and I am one of their biggest fans. Their music is original and eclectic, while their lyrics are thoughtful, honest, idealistic and spiritual. Over the years they have developed real stage presence and last time I saw Lingers live (May 2005 in Prague), I felt that they had finally really hit their groove.
As musicians, their skills are masterful and passionate. Tom´s backing vocals are smooth and sensual. Arno´s voice is distinctive, melodic and versatile; he projects both strength and vulnerability with it. You have to hear it to believe it.
The Prague Post called Lingers´ latest album Gallery "a rich musical mix of jazz, funk, rock, reggae and hip-hop". The Czech daily MF Dnes simply called it "Album of the Year 2004".
On behalf of Lingers, I invite you to come in and explore the website, listen to their music, look at some photos, join the mailing list and leave a message in the guestbook if you´d like.
Thank you for visiting.

BANDHistoryIn 1993 a group of students from Ústí nad Labem in North Bohemia (Czech Republic) formed the band and they started to call themselves Lingers. After they had played covers by their favourites, circling round the local pubs and clubs, they started to compose original music. That first period was captured on a demo tape called Women´s Lament in 1996.
The new era started in 1999. That was a time of changes in the band. Two members of the old band had left and the two remaining original Lingers, Arnošt Sameš - vocalist and drummer and Tomáš Hoskovec playing guitars, started to play with Petr Los on bass guitar and David Singer on guitar and violin. A brand new sound started to linger on filling the air...
In 2002 Lingers managed to release a debut album Beyond at their own expense and without the support of a music company. They started to perform live more and more all over the Czech Republic. The first album features straightforward hits such as "Beyond" and "My Spouse Said", but also more complicated and sophisticated compositions that ask for at least a bit of effort on the part of the listener.
The second album Gallery seems to be more light-hearted than Beyond, with playful tunes and a smooth sound.
The Lingers now release their albums on the prestigious label Indies Records (www.indiesrec.cz).

He also played with some other bands at that time - The Face and The End. He graduated from Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem where his major subjects were Czech and English. It was at the university in 1994 that Tom got together with Arnošt and other schoolmates to form the early Lingers. Tom came through some other interesting music projects besides, such as the folk band Truckeři or the prototypical reggae band Orly W Blotie Europy. In 1998 he moved to Česká Lípa and the next year the new Lingers met up.
